There are many sights along the way including spectacular views of stratified rock beds featuring gravels, conglomerate and mudstone. St Marys of the Angels

A historic building in Boulcott Street. http://www.stmaryoftheangels.wellington.net.nz

A feature of the church is the stained-glass windows. When the medieval craftsmen built the great cathedrals of Europe, they hoped that the windows would give glory to God and help to educate the faithful, many of whom were illiterate. The builders of St Mary of the Angels did not have exactly the same object in mind. They certainly hoped that the windows would give glory to God. The windows serve more as a reminder of the great mysteries of faith and also the devotion of the people. Many of these windows came from Germany. They were constructed in the famous stained-glass foundry of F X Zettler in Munich when German industry was revived after the First World War. Some of the windows at eye level have Zettler’s name etched on them. Many people have visited the church and admired the stained glass windows, including Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, who was to become Pope John Paul II.
